Dr. Urbinelli trained in the combined general surgery and plastic surgery residency at NYU School of Medicine and Bellevue Hospital, then completed a craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery fellowship at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He worked as Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at OHSU, Director of the Cleft and Craniofacial Center at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, OR and Acting-Chief of Pediatric Plastic Surgery for 5 years before creating PNW Plastic Surgery a concierge private practice in Portland, OR. He is an Active Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and Board-Certified in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

In the Fall of 2024, Dr. Urbinelli brought that training and extensive experience back to Upstate New York, where he and his wife grew up.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a facelift cost in Syracuse, NY?

It depends. Patient’s needs, complexity, prior history (medical and surgical, injectables), on the technique and the time in the operating room, and under anesthesia. Therefore, a figure quoted before a thorough history and examination is a mere guess. A type-written estimate is given after the consultation and emailed to prospective patients, covering the surgical fees, anesthesia and facility costs separately, so you can see what each part costs. Financing options are available. In general, rough ballpark for a deep plane face and neck lift (without anclillary treatments such as fat grafting, laser resurfacing, brow or eyelid lift, lip lift, etc) is ~ $20,000 (which includes anesthesia and facility fees). This cost goes up for more procedures performed if the patient desires or requires.

What is the difference between a facelift and a neck lift?

A facelift addresses the mid to lower face, where skin and deeper tissue have descended over the cheek and jowls. A neck lift addresses the area under the chin, from the jawline to the collarbones: loose skin, the vertical bands that show when you animate or at rest, and fullness that blunts the jawline definition. The jawline sits between the two, but in general a necklift and facelift often go together (albeit there are exceptions where each can be done in isolation).

At what age should you consider a facelift?

There is no correct age and no upper limit if one is healthy. Most patients are between their late forties and their sixties, but health and tissue quality decide candidacy rather than the number, and patients in their seventies are treated routinely as well as late thirties these days, in the age of massive weight loss (bariatric surgery, GLP-1 agonist use). For example, someone with excellent genetics, skin care, preventative sunscreen, conservative use of non-surgical aesthetics who has excellent tissue/skin quality at 60 years of age may be very well preserved and not need anything dramatic like a facelift, while someone with heavy sun damage, weight loss, collagen loss and tissue volume loss and laxity at 45 years old may require the power and re-elevation of a facelift. Each patient is assessed individually in person to assess their concerns, tissue health and goals. Dr. Urbinelli has performed facelifts on patients in their 30’s up to very healthy 80 year olds. How long is recovery from plastic surgery?

It varies by procedure. Expect roughly two weeks before most people feel comfortable in public after facial surgery such as a neck lift, four to six weeks before returning to exercise after breast surgery, and about six weeks after abdominal surgery such as a tummy tuck. Swelling takes several months to settle, and longer after rhinoplasty. You will be given a timeline specific to your procedure before you commit to a date.

Will there be visible scars?

Any incision leaves a scar. Incisions are placed in creases, hairlines and natural shadows so they are as inconspicuous as possible, and scar care begins once the wound has healed. How a scar matures also depends on genetics, skin type and whether you smoke, which is discussed openly at the consultation rather than afterward.

Do you offer non surgical treatments?

Yes. Botox, Dysport, Juvederm and Restylane fillers, laser treatments and medical skincare are all offered, and for some concerns they are the better answer. If a non surgical option will do what you want, you will be told that rather than steered toward an operation. See non surgical aesthetics.

Do you see children?

Yes. Dr. Urbinelli completed a craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery fellowship at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. The practice treats congenital differences, ear and nasal deformity, nevi, jaw surgery, scalp and skull reconstruction and facial trauma in children. See pediatric reconstructive surgery.

How do I know if I am a candidate?

That is what the consultation decides. It covers your medical history, medications, smoking status, weight stability and what you are hoping the result will look like. Some people are told to wait, and some are told that what they want is not achievable with the anatomy they have. That conversation happens before any booking.

Do you take insurance?

Cosmetic procedures are not covered by insurance. Reconstructive procedures often are, including some nasal breathing surgery, gynecomastia, breast reconstruction, eyelid surgery where the lid obstructs vision, and panniculectomy. I had a revision surgery in August of 2023, in an attempt to correct my breathing and fix countless issues the first surgeon left behind.

Knowing this surgery wouldn't be a small task, I tried to remain patient and hopeful with Dr. Urbinelli and team that all would go great. It didn't.

My breathing is the same, if not worse, than before (which is terrible). It feels like I am suffocating all day, every day. The aesthetic of my nose has gotten worse (fat, asymmetrical, twisted, etc.). The columella scar is still visible. Swelling refuses to go down. I still have a septal perforation, collapsed nasal valves, deviated septum, and enlarged turbinates. He used a cadaver rib, which seems to be curved and feels rock hard, which is extremely annoying. I have a foul odor that has been persistent since surgery. And when I can't smell that, my sense of smell is practically non-existent. The entire process has been miserable and extremely frustrating.

I did everything (and more) that I was told. Taping, Vaseline, elevation, icing, no exercise, sprays, cleanses, follow-up appts. every single thing. Yet, I still can't breathe, my nose looks terrible, in my opinion...and I'm out thousands of dollars.

I am bummed to leave a poor review because I truly did want it to be positive, but I can't at this time. The surgery failed, and now I'm left with very few options to actually get this fixed. Regretful is an understatement.

Dr. Urbinelli is nice, did a good job with bedside manner, and the anesthesiologist did a great job. Unfortunately, the office staff and Dr. Urbinelli were unresponsive many times after surgery, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Overall, it is frustrating, mentally debilitating, and I'm at a loss for what to do next.

If you're looking to get surgery done for breathing issues or reconstruction of the nasal area, I would suggest going to a nose specialist instead of a general plastic surgeon.
